How I Earned a High Tech Salary Within My First Month of Selling
Transitioning from full-stack development to entrepreneurship
For more than seven years, I built software for other companies as a full-stack developer. Eventually, I decided to pursue my own dream and left my job to embark on an entrepreneurial journey.
From Struggle to Opportunity
The early days were rough. I went months without earning any income and struggled to find a starting point. Feeling directionless, I turned my attention to a well-known trend: artificial intelligence, with ChatGPT leading the charge. I explored the OpenAI community forum, where users frequently requested features that hadn’t yet been implemented.
A strategic pivot: building what users wanted
That insight sparked an idea: deliver those sought-after features myself. I developed a Chrome extension and focused on implementing the most requested capabilities, including:
– Downloading advanced voice mode messages as MP3
– Organizing chats with folders
– Saving and reusing prompts
– Pinning important chats
– Exporting chats to TXT and JSON formats
– Deleting or archiving multiple chats at once
– Improving chat history search speed and relevance
Launch and early traction
The first version took about a week to develop. When I released it, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Users appreciated the value, and some even called me a “lifesaver.” This confirmed that the product could be both genuinely helpful and commercially viable.
Experimenting with a free-to-paid model
I kept the initial version free to gauge reception, which helped build a sizable user base. The extension earned a featured badge from Chrome after a period of strong downloads, significantly increasing traffic and visibility.
A milestone moment: turning a profit
Encouraged by positive feedback, I introduced a paid version about a month ago. Just minutes after launch, I made my first sale, a moment that was incredibly motivating and validated the business concept.
Current results and ongoing development
- User base: Over 4,000 users
- Revenue: More than $4,500 in the first selling month
- Roadmap: Releasing 1–2 new features each month based on user requests
- Cross-browser reach: Delivered the same extension for Firefox and Edge in response to demand
Community and collaboration
Beyond the product itself, I started a Reddit community to share updates, discount codes, and feature ideas. This direct line to users has been invaluable for feedback and engagement. I’ve also begun work on another extension for Claude, with hopes of replicating this success.
A message to aspiring entrepreneurs
Stay persistent. Initial roadblocks can feel insurmountable, but with patience, dedication, and a dash of creativity, you can turn a dream into reality.
I hope this story motivates you to pursue your goals with confidence. Wishing success to everyone on their entrepreneurial journey.
